Customs and Airports Arrival
and Departure
There are several questions that come in the mind of a traveler
especially if he is venturing into the destinations that are so very
unknown. In Costa Rica the arrival, departure, the customs are quite
simple and therefore easy to follow irrespective of whether you are
unknown to the region or not.
If you are traveling by plane you will
be arriving at San Jose or Juan Santa María International Airport in
Alajuela.
The first stop should be at the Immigration counter. You should have
the forms in your possession, one for Immigration and the other for
the Customs. If you have just brought personal belongings like
clothes, make up, other accessories, papers into the country of
Costa Rica then you merely need to write down "personal belongings"
in the form of the custom's department.
You also need to put down
your address in the Immigration form. Just remember to keep both the
forms ready and complete along with your passport.
Take care to see that you get the luggage on the floor or on the
conveyer belt. Do not panics as you will surely find it some where
near you. There are attendants also who will take care to see that
your belongings are intact. The next stop would be the customs and
then you will come to the exit area.
Remember to keep your baggage
claim tags intact and ready so that you are not delayed further
while coming out.
The Costa Rican Government charges an exit fee that amounts to
seventeen dollars at the time of leaving the airport. Besides this
there is also an additional payment that needs to be done. You shall
also need to pay for the transportation that will take you from and
to the airport.
There are also certain requirements that are to be met before
entering Costa Rica. all the citizens of the United States need to
have a passport that is valid and that it will not expire for the
next thirty days after arrival.
Immigration is denied if the
passport is damaged in any way. If the period of stay is extended
then the person has to apply for an extension to stay further.
There
are temporary permits available that needs to be taken under all
circumstances. Those who have overstayed before may be denied access
into the country at a later date. All the citizens are required to
comply with the entry and exit rules before coming in to the land.
